The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education has prompted the development of tools designed to enhance literature evaluation and academic writing. This study critically examines Scite, an emerging AI-enabled citation analysis platform that contextualizes citations by classifying them as supporting, contrasting, or mentioning. Drawing on existing literature, reported use cases, and feature analysis, the study evaluates Scite's relevance for learning, instruction, and assessment. The report highlights how Scite supports students in navigating complex literature, assists instructors in teaching critical source evaluation, and aids researchers and editors in ensuring citation integrity through tools such as Smart Citations and Reference Check. At the same time, the paper identifies significant challenges, including overreliance on automated metrics, misinterpretation of citation context, coverage gaps across disciplines, ethical concerns related to AI-assisted writing, and issues of access and equity arising from subscription-based models. By synthesizing emerging evidence and pedagogical considerations, the report argues that Scite is best understood as an augmentative tool that enhances, but does not replace, critical scholarly judgment. The paper concludes with recommendations for responsible integration, emphasizing the importance of training, institutional policy development, and ethical oversight to ensure that Scite supports rigorous and transparent academic practices.
